I came to this industry after thirty years in technology, starting in the early 90's running Unix systems and networks at the University of Chicago as a Data and Financial Systems Analyst. Then to HP for fifteen years, eight in the utilities vertical, and eventually as global utilities lead and healthcare lead. From there to OpenText, initially on Enterprise Content Management (ECM) and customer communications focused primarily on SAP, and finally on alliances covering data interchange and IoT.

Those roles influenced the way I work today, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and precision. Capacity comes from the utility, zoning comes from ordinance text, not from a summary. Flood status comes from the FEMA map, not from a county GIS layer. Parcel geometry comes from the assessor. 

When the tooling to do those things at speed did not exist, I built it: a transaction system that tracks everything, document review that runs the same checklist every time, and property reports that carry the power, water and entitlements. 

None of that sells a building on its own, but it removes, or at least reduces, the parts of a deal that cause the most friction or make it unworkable.
